Barstool Prophets – Crank 20th Anniversary Reunion Concert

by the minions behind the door on January 4, 2015

crankPresented by: Shenkman Arts Centre – Ottawa
Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 8 pm

The Ottawa band that kept you and the rest of Canada rocking all through the 90s, is coming together to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the release of their first major label release, Crank. The group will showcase the “best of” their 10-year career and there are plenty of chart-topping tunes that fall into that category to keep the house rocking all night.

To make a long story short, Crank (1994) was their first major-label offering and with it the band cranked out a string of hits including “Mankindman”, “Paranoia”, and “Little Death”. It was a huge turning point for the band, who’d first come together in 1991. Paranoia was featured in the Alliance/Atlantis motion picture “Never Talk to Strangers” (starring Antonio Banderas / Rebecca Demornay) and opened the door to an American record deal in 1995. By that time they’d had opening gigs on Canada-wide tours with The Odds and 54-40 and for I Mother Earth, The Headstones and Junkhouse.

In 1997, the band did what upward bound bands do and travelled to Memphis to record their sophomore album, Last of the Big Game Hunters, with renowned engineer/producer Joe Hardy (ZZ Top, Steve Earle, Tom Cochrane). More rock radio hits followed, with Upsidedown and Vigilante both charting very strongly in Canada and on US college radio. It was their final single, Friend of Mine that crossed them over to the pop radio charts.

The group disbanded amidst a flurry of record and publishing company takeovers in 1999.

Barstool Prophets are: Glenn Forrester, Graham Greer, Bob Tamas and Alain Morier.
